TUTAM STARTS IN

THE BROADBASED GOVERNMENT

The Broadbased Government is an inclusive governance arrangement that brings together the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in pursuit of national unity, political stability, and economic prosperity. By fostering cooperation across the political divide, it seeks to reduce ethnic tensions, strengthen social cohesion, and ensure that development and public services reach all regions of the country. At its heart is the belief that Kenya's future is best secured through unity, inclusion, and shared progress rather than political and ethnic division.

THE PRESIDENT

President William Samoei Ruto's political journey is among the most remarkable stories in modern African politics. It is an unlikely path, marked by resilience, perseverance, and an extraordinary capacity for political adaptation.

From humble beginnings as a village boy who sold chickens by the roadside, he rose through the ranks of public life to become President of the Republic of Kenya. His rise to the presidency was not founded on privilege or inherited advantage, but on hard work, persistence, and, as he often acknowledges, the grace of God.

President Ruto’s story has helped redefine Kenya's political landscape, shifting the national conversation from elite centred politics towards greater attention to the aspirations and welfare of ordinary citizens.

Since assuming office, he has championed the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), a policy framework designed to uplift low income earners, small business owners, and those in the informal sector through targeted economic interventions, expanded opportunities, and empowerment programmes.

As a co-steward of the Broadbased Government, the President remains committed to fostering national unity, strengthening public institutions, and building an economy in which every Kenyan has the opportunity to prosper, live with dignity, and realise their full potential.

THE YOUTH LEADER

Following the passing of his younger brother, Raila Amolo Odinga, Dr. Oburu Odinga has steadily cultivated a distinct political identity, shaped by a shared family history but defined by his own leadership style and convictions.

As the current leader of the ODM Party and custodian of its enduring legacy, Dr. Oburu remains deeply committed to the ideals of social justice that have long been associated with both his family and Kenya's broader democratic struggle. Serving as a bridge between generations, he favours measured institutional leadership, quiet diplomacy, and the steady exercise of influence over political theatrics.

His political philosophy is anchored in pragmatism, coalition building, and consensus driven governance. Drawing upon his background as an economist, he places greater emphasis on institutional stability, economic growth, and social development than on rigid ideological confrontation.

Dr. Oburu firmly believes that the ODM Party must evolve from a movement primarily associated with protest politics into a governing force focused on policy implementation and national transformation. To that end, he has championed a collaborative approach to governance, encouraging constructive engagement in pursuit of tangible outcomes for the Kenyan people.

Above all, he is a strong advocate of the Broadbased Government, viewing it as a vital framework for promoting national unity, political stability, and shared economic prosperity for all Kenyans.

THE STATESMAN

Gravestone Cross

Former ODM Party Leader and Prime Minister. The Enigma. The People's President. The late Raila Amolo Odinga was a statesman of rare stature who possessed an abiding love for Kenya and an unwavering belief in the promise of Project Kenya, an enduring vision of a united, prosperous, and democratic nation.

Throughout his long and distinguished public life, he transcended the narrow confines of ethnicity and partisan rivalry, emerging as one of the nation's foremost champions of democratic reform, political pluralism, and constitutional advancement.

The late Prime Minister believed deeply in the ideal of a united, stable, and inclusive nation, one that rose above ethnic loyalties and political divisions. Pragmatic to a fault, he understood that nation building often required compromise. He was consistently willing to forge broad alliances, including with former political adversaries, whenever he believed such partnerships would strengthen national unity and advance the common good.

His approach reflected a leader more concerned with the country's long term stability than with the rigid boundaries of political competition. Particularly in the aftermath of contentious elections, periods of national tension, and in moments when Kenya stood at a crossroads, Raila repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to place the interests of the nation above personal ambition. He chose dialogue over division and reconciliation over confrontation. In doing so, he earned his place as a statesman who valued national tranquillity and cohesion above all else.

Above all, Baba's enduring legacy was his steadfast belief that Kenya's future lies in unity, dialogue, cooperation, inclusivity, and a shared sense of purpose and responsibility. In his final political chapter, he entrusted the nation to the Broadbased Government, choosing cooperation over confrontation and national stability over division. It was a continuation of the principles that had guided him throughout his public life.

As we reflect on his life and service, we honour a leader whose vision extended beyond the politics of the moment and whose commitment and devotion in pursuit of a better Kenya never wavered.

May you continue to rest in eternal peace, Baba. Your legacy lives on.
